The Rods travelled the short distance to Castleford to take on their 2nd team on a damp Saturday afternoon.
The game started with both teams wanting to attack and after a dart down the blindside Falloon was hit high and came off for a HIA his replacement Nathan Larvo showed his class 5 minutes later by crashing over in the corner. 5-0.
Play restarted and Castleford where on the offensive but Stout defence held them out. Castleford discipline let them down and clearing kicks give rods chance to strike with Tom Stafford scoring. 10-0.
From the kick off Cas put pressure on the. Rods line for a number of minutes before the ball was spilled and the Rods pounced with interplay between Sealey Tom Kirk and Stones put Joss Newton in to score though it did look like he dropped it over the line Scrafton converting 17-0 and the score remained until half time. The start of the 2nd half started brightly again for the Rods with Tom Stafford scoring his 2nd.
This spurred Cas into playing their best rugby with a great crash Ball taking them over the line 22-5. Then former Rods player Savage crashed over for a scrum to take the score to 22-12.
This reignited the Rods who kept control till the final whistle, from a blind side scrum move Anton Porter crashed over 27-12.
Sealey becoming more confident was making breaks for fun and a mix up between Glen Bakewell and Tom Kirk meant the ball was spilled over the line.
From the resulting scrum Castleford cleared their lines only for the Rods to attack once more with Tom Stafford striding through from 50m to score his hat trick converted by Scrafton 34-12. Just before full time Sealey broke again this time finishing off with a well deserved try again converted by Scrafton.
Mentions must go to debutants Nathan Larvo, Tom Kirk, Stones and Sean who all made telling contributions as well as the defencive work of Glen Bakewell credit must go to the forwards who controlled the game for long periods.
