The Rods travelled to Heath in Halifax to play Heath's 3rd / vets who where playing their first game since the pandemic.
Heath were bolstered by our friends from Halifax Vandals. The game started quickly and poor defence led to a try by Heath/Vandals which was converted.
This fired up the Rods and with some strong running from Glen Bakewell who cut through the defence to score.
This lifted confidence and some great rugby was played with Cam Kiely powering over which was converted.
Tom Stafford playing as a makeshift winger scored the first of his 3 tries with some strong runs. After good handling and powerful running from debutant Ant Dorling, Glen and Cam both scored again.
A 2nd debutant James Hollingworth playing his first game for 12 years at scrum half put up a superb box kick that caused all sorts of confusion the ball bounced into the hands of a guest Heath player who scored under the posts.
With the game being one sided the teams where swapped around a little but the Rods still played the better rugby with another guest player making his debut in senior rugby scoring two tries with fast footwork. The referee blew time on the game with a final score of 49/7. Rich Robinson kicked two conversions and Ross showed his experience and calm head during the game.
But the real winner was Rugby with 2 teams enjoying playing rugby and enjoying a few beers afterwards.
If your interested in meeting new mates and having fun in a team environment come give Rugby a try🏉🏉.
