Stanley Rodillians were on their travels again this month but only the short distance over to Morley RUFC, with games to be played against Morley and Leeds Corinthians.
Rods first fixture of the day was against Morley. The weather was definitely playing its part, the wintery conditions making handling difficult, but not dampening enthusiasm.
A low scoring first half was very evenly contested but Morley took the lead late in the half barging their way over to lead 5 – 0 at the break.
As the second half took shape Morley took more control, gradually stretching the lead to 17-0. Rods to their credit kept working hard, and in the last few minutes Sealy crashed through the Morley defence to score a well deserved try.
Final score Morley 17 – 5 Rods
After a short break Rods returned to the field for their second encounter of the day against Leeds Corinthians.
Both sides showed great endeavour and ignored the weather to play open and expansive rugby to entertain the crowd.
Rods took the lead in the first half, when a side step and break from Tom Stafford put Anton Porter clean through to score in the corner. Rods led 5-0. Corinthians were soon back in it, after kicking long down field, some great work by their pack resulted in a try followed by a conversion and Corinthians were in the lead 5 – 7.
The second half saw several chances go astray for both teams with neither team in control. It was to Be Corinthians who were to make the first breakthrough of the half. With a try out wide taking the score to 5 – 12. Rods were not ready for a second defat of the day and continued to push to get back in the game. The hard work was rewarded just five minutes from the end when Ross Falloon sidestepped his way to a great try. The resulting conversion made it 12-12 and that was how the game ended.
A big thank you to our hosts Morley for looking after all players and supporters on a blustery November afternoon.
