It might not be the ‘A’ team but Mick Stanley is our Mr ‘E’ (our environment & ecology champion)
Working in conjunction with Stanley Residents Association, The Woodland Trust and the Wakefield Tree Council Mick has taken on the mantle of our E Champion pursuing a wider diversity in the utilisation of the perimeter of our grounds. This will promote the establishment of more extensive bushes and trees to create a natural habitat to help assist the achievement of the aspirations of the Woodland Trust.
The Woodland Trust has three key aims:
(1) to protect ancient woodland which is rare, unique and irreplaceable,
(2) the restoration of damaged ancient woodland,
(3) plant native trees and woods with the aim of creating resilient landscapes for people and wildlife.
It is with this latter aim in mind that Stanley Rodillians RUFC have decided to support these initiatives in two phases.
Phase 1. With the support and advice of Wakefield Tree Council Wardens the planting of 500 Hawthorn bushes in March 2021 to create a sustainable natural hedge and wildlife environment.
Phase 2. To make an application to the Woodland Trust (Northern Forest development) for 500+ trees for 2022 (applications are closed for this year)
It is anticipated this application will be in partnership with Stanley Residents Association and we are looking to try and involve local children / schools to help their education of the issues of climate change, the need to protect existing woodland and create / extend woodland areas by the planting of native trees.
