Those of you who've been to the club in the last few months will be well aware that the access road that serves our property from Lee Moor Road was in an appalling condition and desperately needed remedial action.

We have pursued Wakefield MDC in an endeavour to get the requisite repair work carried out. This has been a fruitless exercise as Wakefield MDC deny any liability for the maintenance of this road. Further investigations indicate that no one appears to know who owns the section of road and similarly no one has any direct liability to take the necessary remedial action.

We decided however that something must happen and accordingly we took action to carry out some significant remedial works to the area in question. This constituted nearly £2000 worth of materials and plant and a lot of free volunteer labour.

In a tremendous effort 15 players past and present turned up on Saturday (10th August) to carry out some hard graft and prepare and resurface the numerous pot holes that have been in evidience. This involved lots of sweeping, sealing, barrowing, laying 7t of hot asphalt and rolling to fill the pot holes.

Additional much appreciated assistance was provided by members of Wakefield Owls JFC and some of the local residents who will also benefit from the actions. Other local residents contributed financially to the exercise and brought refreshments to the workers.

Maureen and Christine supported the guys all morning rustling up bacon sandwiches and hot and cold drinks to keep the hard working team suitably sustained.

The club really appreciates the effort and commitment provided by everyone who participated in the exercise.

Special thanks go to RAB Construction Ltd (Ryan Cullen) who kindly donated the sit-on vibrating roller and offered invaluable guidance and assistance in carrying out the works.

An exercise well worth the effort.
