Tough Start to the New Year at Stanley Rodillians RUFC

Stanley Rodillians RUFC entertained high flying Mosborough in the first game after the Christmas break. With a lot to play for Rods started with great intensity putting pressure on the opposition line.
Mosborough then started gaining some possession and worked their way up the pitch winning a penalty the successful kick to taking them into a 0 -3 lead.

The Rods hit back with great handling from Adam Schofield scoring in the bottom corner Adam Scrafton converting Rods had stolen the lead back 7 – 3.

The game was pretty even with both sides playing good rugby, Mosborough had added a penalty kick to make it 7-6 and Rods replied with the backs showing great endeavour, that gave Liam Crawley a try that went unconverted, Rods now held a lead 12-6.

Mosborough are second in the league for good reason and their quality began to show just before the half time break, awarded a penalty, as Rods debated the decision with the referee, Mosborough’s Scrum Half played a quick tap and go, scoring under the posts.
The conversion added the half ended 12-13, with Mosborough having the slenderest of leads.

The 2nd half started and Mosborough were soon dominating all aspects of play. As they took control the scoreboard moved in their favour.As the game moved to its close Mosborough had moved into a strong lead of 12 – 36.

Rods had found it tough going, but they were showing resolve and it was they who were to have the final say, and what a try it was. With 5 minutes to go Tom Tooley took the ball at pace and dummied past 5 defenders to score the try of the game, Adam Scrafton converted the score was 19-36.

Rods pressed to score a forth try for the bonus point to no avail. It had been a difficult day but Rods can take heart that they have the potential to beat sides above them in the table.
