Stanley Rodillians RUFC
Ossett RUFC
Stanley Rodillians RUFC 27 – 18 Ossett RUFC

Stanley Rodillians had invited past members & friends to Manley Park to celebrate Presidents day .A healthy crowed had gathered and long serving Club President Richard Matthews had pride of place on the touchline to watch this entertaining local derby in Yorkshire 4 (south East) league.
As the match kicked off the early exchanges were very even. Adam Scrafton gave Rods the lead but this was soon cancelled out as Ossett converted a penalty of their own, the scoreboard showing 3 – 3.
With the game still very even Rods were to be the first to cross the whitewash for a try , great handling leading to an excellent try by Ciaran Shier ,the conversion was added by Adam Scrafton and Rod were leading 10-3
Ossett were not to be outdone and built pressure on the home side. Whilst the Rods defence was resilient it eventually gave way just before half time. The Ossett try went unconverted and Rods went into the half time break with a lead of 10-8.
For Rods the second half was off to a quick start, Adie Carr slid through the Ossett defence and a neat offload put Adam Schofield into the corner for an excellent try that went unconverted. Rods 15 – 8 Ossett.
Even after the great start for Rods, it was now Ossett that was in the ascendancy. Ossett were soon to be in the lead as they made this dominance count with 2 unconverted tries making the score Rods 15 – 18 Ossett.
With this ebb and flow game entertaining the local crowd, Rods now fought back .The Rods pack started to get on top in the scrums and this helped create pressure on Ossett. It was then to be some great handling in the back division that gave Adam Schofield a chance and with great speed he beat the Ossett fullback and gave Rods back the lead at 20- 18.
With the game now getting a little scrappy, Ossett were still plugging away and throwing everything at Rods, but the defence held firm. It was then with just 5 minutes left to play a strong break by Rods forward Paul Illingworth , his offload found Adie Carr who at pace broke the Ossett defence. Rods had support on both sides and Ciaran Shier was in the right place to accept the pass and score near the posts. Adam Scrafton converted and Rods had some breathing space. 27 - 18
Ossett fought to the end but were unable to get back in the match and the game was to end with a victory for Rods 27 – 18 Ossett.
Man of the match went to Adie Carr for Stanley Rodillians, but it was a strong team performance and a moral boosting win for the whole team.
